Our role is to drive visitation and expenditure through destination marketing and a strong pipeline of major regional and business events to support the visitor economy.

We aim to build Melbourne and Victoria into Australia’s number one tourism destination by delivering strong and sustainable growth across priority markets. We engage with Traditional Owner groups and indigenous tourism businesses to advance tourism products and other opportunities.

Visit Victoria employs 160 people in Melbourne and across key international markets. We all work together on our goal to revitalise the visitor economy, by generating $35 billion in annual visitor expenditure and supporting 300,000 jobs by June 2024.

The Manager, First Peoples Tourism sits within our Destination Marketing team who are dedicated to delivering best-in-class, visitor-centric marketing activities across all key consumer segments,. We aim to inspire, convert, and service travellers at all stages of the visitor journey.

The role

As the Manager of First Peoples Tourism, you will lead the charge in fostering collaboration through actively engaging with Victorian First Peoples communities, knowledge holders, and cultural leaders, and a range of diverse stakeholders. Your deep understanding of First Peoples cultures will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs to increase the pipeline of First Peoples tourism products in Victoria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage with Victorian First Peoples communities, knowledge holders, and tourism industry stakeholders.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs to increase the pipeline of First Peoples tourism products.
  • Integrate Victoria’s First Peoples tourism offerings into Visit Victoria's marketing activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on product development initiatives and marketing programs.
  • Work with First Peoples communities, government stakeholders and industry to build knowledge of First Peoples tourism opportunities and trends.

About you

  • Demonstrated knowledge of First Peoples tourism businesses, products, and experiences.
  • Understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively in order to build existing and new relationships with First Peoples and communities.
  • High-level project management experience.
  • Well-developed creative, conceptual, and analytical skills.
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to undertake high-level communication and sensitive negotiations.
  • Passion for Tourism and Events .
  • A relevant tertiary degree is preferred.
